General Appearance Guidelines

Wearing the school uniform well and with pride signals to our community that we are a learning
community that values integrity, inquiry, compassion and courage. What follows are guidelines about
our student’s general appearance that stand in relation to grade- and school-specific uniform
expectations. In these matters, we expect the co-operation and support of parents.

Jewelry and Make-Up

  • Upper School students may wear subtle jewelry and makeup.
  • No makeup is permitted in the Junior School.
  • Nail polish is permitted (Junior and Upper Schools). No acrylic or “bio-gels” permitted in the
  • Junior School.
  • A small stud or small ring may be worn in the nose, and studs, small hoops (the size of a
  • quarter) or small drop earrings may be worn in the ears.
  • Other skin piercings (eyebrows, lip, tops of ears, etc.) should not be visible.
  • Hair should be a natural colour for Junior School students.

Kilts and Tunics

  • Kilts and tunics must not be shorter than 9 cm above the knee with the waistband positioned on the student’s natural waist.

Black Pants

  • Students can purchase black pants from the Green & Gold Shop, which may be worn on
  • Regular Dress and Number One Dress days, or they can purchase their own black pants.

Guidelines for pants purchased outside of the Green & Gold Shop:

  • Look for black dress slacks, full length, straight-legged and hemmed at the ankle.
  • Pants may or may not have pleats, a cuff, pockets and belt loops.
  • If a belt is worn, it must be black and the buckle must be subtle.
  • Pants may not be rolled or elastic at the ankle, flared or high-waisted. Cargo pockets
    are not allowed.
  • Black or green socks may be worn under the pants
